Lessons in Stratigraphy

Lessons in stratigraphy is one of my favorite abstract series. I have been working in this style for over a decade, and the work in this category has taken on several different lives during that time. Stratigraphy refers to the branch of geology concerned with the order and relative position of strata and their relationship to geological time. My experience with the term is largely based on my academic exploration of archaeology, which also utilizes the term to analyze the order and position of layers of archaeological remains. Some of the paintings are simply abstract representations of such, whereas others detail what life might be like in a zero-gravity atmosphere, with layers organized almost as floating on the vertical axis, as well.
